There’s so much happening in Echuca Moama during February and this weekend will see our riverside town overrun with competitors and spectators for the iconic Southern 80 – the world’s biggest ski racing event.
Now in its 53rd year, the Southern 80 will see more than 440 entries from across the country and overseas travel the 80km from Torrumbarry to Echuca in an epic battle of skill and speed.
Teams – made up of all ages and abilities, males and females – will tackle the 124 bends of the Murray River course, some reaching speeds of up to 190kmph – while towing two skiers!
Our town will be brimming with more than 1000 competitors and up to 40,000 ski racing fans, and we are blessed to host an event of this calibre, which generates a whopping $20 million into our local economy.

Traffic around town will be super busy this weekend (for obvious reasons), therefore we have modified our open for inspection timetable to accommodate the influx of visitors.

Then, even before all the Southern 80 boats leave town, preparations will be afoot for the annual Riverboats Music Festival, held at the naturally stunning amphitheatre that is Echuca’s Aquatic Reserve.
Now in its seventh year, this epic weekend is fast becoming the Murray River’s premiere contemporary music event and it all kicks off on Friday February 16 for three days of uber talent including Neil and Liam Finn, Kasey Chambers, Josh Pyke, The Black Sorrows with Vika and Linda Bull, the Teskey Brothers, and many more.
Not surprisingly Riverboats is a sold-out affair and another great example of why Echuca Moama is a great place to visit and to call ‘home’.
See you all at the Southern 80 or Riverboats Music Festival!
