Melbourne people have been flocking to the regions following two years of crippling lockdowns and heading north up the Hume Highway to somewhere other than the city, but we now have data confirmation that Moama is the second most popular location for a post-Covid tree change.
A recent realesate.com article confirms that there has been “a mass exodus of residents from Melbourne over the past few years, spurred by Victoria’s long and painful COVID-19 lockdowns, (which) is inspiring others to consider making a move to greener pastures”.
The article discusses new data that reveals Moama’s second place ranking for the most-searched interstate suburbs by Victoria property seekers.
Hobart was the most-searched location for those escaping the most ‘locked down city in the world’, followed by Adelaide in third place, while the Queensland’s Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise rounded out the top five.
The data was collated from last October’s quarter search data, that coincides with Australian Bureau of Statistics population figures showing that during the year to June 2021, 79,907 people migrated away from Victoria – more than any other state or territory.
CLK Director Troy O’Brien confirms that Melbourne buyers have been purchasing via online auctions even during the last two years of lockdowns and those who were considering a tree change before the pandemic are certainly looking to make their dreams of living regionally a reality.
“We have strong activity coming out of Melbourne for a couple of years now, which meant things did not slow down for us during the pandemic – in fact it has been busier than ever before,” Troy said.
“In my 20 years selling real estate I have not seen the market as strong as it is,” he said.
The data also confirmed that Sydney saw locals looking further afield for a change, with the most-searched areas in NSW including Surfers Paradise Adelaide, Wodonga in Victoria, Burleigh Heads in Queensland and also Wangaratta in regional Victoria.
